Simple Green Living Tips

The world’s population is becoming more and more aware of sustainable living as the media bombards us with global warming and climate change information. Sometimes the sheer volumes of information can be overwhelming, so much so that a non-green person will tuck tail and run rather than begin to make some changes. If this is you, here are some simple green living tips that you can implement in your daily life that will have far reaching effects.
1. Water: water usage is something that many do not pay attention too, here are 3 simple ways to preserve the earths water reserves. Do not water your garden between 10 and 3 in the day. Evaporation is much higher at this time. Bathing and showering water can be collected in a bucket and used on your non edible plants. Washing your car with one bucket of water, instead of a running hose, is a wise ethical choice.
2. Food: As far as possible buy food that is local and organically produced. Try to grow some of your own fruit or vegetables yourself whether you live in an apartment or house, there is always something you can grow, from herbs to pumpkins!
3. Waste: set up a compost system or wormery for kitchen waste. Set up a recycling centre for paper, plastic, glass and tin. Remember to REDUCE, REUSE then to recyle.
4. Travel: If you are a commuter for your job, see if you can find someone in your area to car pool. Otherwise, if your public transport is safe, consider using this instead. Group your errands and travelling activities to save time and gas.
5. Money: Frugallity is back in fashion. Consumers are becoming wiser in how they are spending their money. Before you buy something
6. Green Fun: somewhere in the last 20 years kite flying, picnics and walks no longer passed as fun and this generation took to electronic games for stimulation. These things cost money first in the purchase, second in the game buying and third to the planet through electricity consumption. Here’s a challenge – turn of the Playstation, Wii or computer, pull out the picnic blanket, kites and walking shoes and make a wise change for your health and the health of the planet!
